這是約翰藍儂著名的一首歌，歌詞簡單卻寓意深遠，是約翰藍儂
於披頭四解散後，在單飛的生涯中逐漸成為一位深思內省、充滿
人道精神的搖滾思想家，最有力的作品。
然而這首歌的誕生，卻是源自約翰藍儂日籍妻子小野洋子一九六
三年的手札："Imagine the clouds dripping. Dig a hole in your
garden to put them in."。
洋子回憶說，這幾句話對建構多元性的未來提出了概念性的建議
，啟發了藍儂諸多靈感。
於是，藍儂就在倫敦郊外的住所臥室內寫出了"Imagine"，並在
家中的錄音室彈著鋼琴錄下了這首歌。
後來，藍儂邀請著名的 Phil Spector 擔任製作人，Phil Spector
原本打算在編曲中加入管絃樂，但兩人交換意見之後，決定採用
最簡單的形式呈現。
藍儂自己表示，這是一首反宗教、反民族主義、反傳統、反資本
社會的歌。
小野洋子則認為，這首歌未必是藍儂最好的作品，卻是訊息傳遞
最成功的歌曲。
西洋歌曲中描述烏托邦的理想國度，除了這首歌之外，還有一首
非常著名的歌，就是黑人爵士樂手路易士阿姆斯壯的「多麼美好
的世界」（What a wonderful world）。
隨著時代演進，這個世界顯然的越來越糟，更顯得這兩首歌曲美
好動人。
