第一次我看到此花是在七年前了吧!!
那是在苗栗縣的華陶窯,它讓我第一次見到木玫瑰...錦屏藤...穗花棋盤腳...
當我首次看到此花時,我相當的興奮與驚豔

枝椏上迎風搖曳生姿的花朵才要漸次飄零呢!!
穗花棋盤腳在夜晚開花,與月下美人(曇花)一樣,只在半夜
裡吐露芬芳,早上太陽起床之後花就謝了.
穗花棋盤腳的花只有一天的壽命,其花成串開放,狀如粉撲,
相當可愛.其果實形如舊時之棋盤的底腳,因此而得此名.
穗花棋盤腳樹又名水茄苳
國寶級的河口水生植物,也是[紅樹林]五種台灣原生植物之一的水茄苳,學名叫[穗花棋盤腳].
穗花棋盤腳的每一朵花的生命雖然只有十多小時,一串花每天天黑就開花,卻可開一個多星期,
並且每天輪流表現燦爛的生命呢.
